Nonprofits

Audit, tax and accounting support for nonprofits that need clean reporting, confident boards and room to focus on the mission.

Strong Finances Behind a Strong Mission

Nonprofits answer to more people than most businesses do. Boards, donors, grantors, regulators and the public all rely on your financial statements, and each one expects them to be accurate, transparent and on time.

We work with charities, foundations and community organizations on the full financial picture: audits and reviews, Form 990 preparation, grant and restricted fund accounting, and the day-to-day bookkeeping that keeps it all in order. Our goal is reporting your board can trust and a finance function that does not pull your team away from the work that matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does a nonprofit need an audit?

Requirements can come from funders, lenders, your board or bylaws, and state charitable registration rules. In Pennsylvania, charities that register with the Department of State generally must submit audited financial statements once annual gross contributions reach $750,000. Charities with between $250,000 and $750,000 in contributions can submit reviewed statements instead. Organizations that spend $1,000,000 or more in federal awards in a fiscal year are also subject to a Single Audit under the federal Uniform Guidance, and our audit team performs Single Audits.

Which Form 990 does our organization file?

It depends on size. Very small organizations may file the Form 990-N postcard, smaller organizations generally file Form 990-EZ, and larger organizations file the full Form 990. Private foundations file Form 990-PF. Read our Form 990 FAQs for the details.

How should we account for restricted gifts and grants?

Gifts with donor restrictions are reported separately from unrestricted funds and released as the restriction is met. Getting this right keeps your statements accurate and shows funders their money was used as intended.

How can a small nonprofit reduce the risk of fraud?

Separate key duties where you can, require board review of bank statements and large disbursements, and reconcile accounts monthly. Even a small staff can put practical controls in place.

Where are your nonprofit clients located?

Our office is in Media, PA. We work with nonprofits across Delaware County, Greater Philadelphia, South Jersey and Delaware, and nationwide.
