A system review covers your firm's quality management system and is required for firms that perform audits. An engagement review looks at selected engagements, such as reviews and compilations, for firms that do not perform audits. Learn more about system and engagement reviews.
Most firms schedule six to twelve months before the review due date. Booking early gives you time to address any gaps before fieldwork begins.
Firms enrolled in the AICPA Peer Review Program that perform audits, reviews, compilations or other attest engagements generally need a peer review once every three years. Firms that only prepare tax returns or perform financial statement preparation engagements generally do not.
It depends on the size of your firm and the type of review. Engagement reviews are usually shorter and can often be completed remotely. System reviews take longer because they cover your quality management system as well as selected engagements. We agree on a timeline with you before the review begins.
