We will limit in-person meetings this tax season and offer phone conferences or virtual appointments via Zoom or Microsoft Teams if preferred.
Document Deadline and Automatic Extensions
Continuing our proactive approach, we recommend that you gather relevant information early to ensure your return(s) will be filed on time. As previously announced, we must receive all necessary documentation by April 1, 2023. If a client has not provided their 2022 tax information by April 1, 2023, we make no guarantee that the return will be filed by the April 18, 2023, deadline. In that case, we will file an extension on the client’s behalf.
A tax extension makes it easier to compile and review all the necessary documentation for an accurate return. It may also be more cost-effective to file an extension than an amended return later.
But remember, filing an extension does not relieve you from paying any tax due or making quarterly estimated tax payments for the current year. Failure to pay any tax due with extension or failure to pay quarterly estimated tax payments may result in various penalties and interest.

E-Sign Your Engagement Letters
At Brinker Simpson, we constantly search for ways to streamline our processes. We are happy to announce that clients can now sign their tax engagement letters with an electronic signature! We are rolling this feature out for 2022 engagements. Everything can be done on the screen; there is no need to print, sign, scan, or email your letters. These will be sent out to clients the week of February 6, 2023. If you do not receive your electronic engagement letter(s) by Friday, February 10, 2023, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and a team member will happily assist you.
You will receive a link to your engagement letter(s) via email from email@example.com (if you don't see it, check your spam folder). You will receive a separate email for each engagement letter (one per entity).
In January 2022, Brinker Simpson teamed up with Tax Caddy. With TaxCaddy, you can electronically receive your tax organizer, manage and securely upload your tax documents and communicate with your tax advisor, all from the convenience of your computer, smartphone, or tablet. We received positive feedback from those who utilized the platform last tax season, and we hope you will take advantage of its convenient features this year. For clients using TaxCaddy, the tax organizer/questionnaire can be completed electronically and will prompt you regarding what information is still needed. Let us know if you'd like to use TaxCaddy.
The other option is to have us send the tax organizer to you via email or US Mail. You can print out the organizer, complete and send it back to us with your tax documents. However, we will be phasing out the use of the paper organizer in the next couple of years.
For the third year, once your returns are prepared, your tax packet (returns, instructions, vouchers, E-file signature authorization forms, etc.) can be sent to you thru SafeSend Returns. This eliminates having you come into the office or wait for your returns in the mail. You can learn more about SafeSend Returns by visiting our website. For clients who do not wish to use TaxCaddy, our secure Portal is still available to exchange documents.
